GTPase activity was measured using binding of GTP [35S]
in the presence of DAMGO as described in METHODS. Neurons
from STZ-induced diabetic animals exhibited significantly lower
DAMGO-stimulated binding compared with nondiabetic controls with
a significant (P < 0.01) rightward shift in the binding
affinity.
