RETRACTION

Retraction

Volume 83, June 2000

Pages 3299–3309: Jorge-Rivera JC, McIntyre KL, Henderson LP. "Anabolic Androgenic Steroids Induce Region- and Subunit-Specific Rapid Modulation of GABAA Receptor-Mediated Currents in the Rat Forebrain." J Neurophysiol 83: 3299–3309, 2000 (http://jn.physiology.org/cgi/reprint/83/6/3299). An investigation by the Office of the Inspector General, National Science Foundation, found that conclusions in this paper related to the modulation of recombinant and native GABAA receptors by anabolic steroids, as well as the behavioral implications of these findings, were based, in part, on data that had been falsified by the first author, Dr. Jorge-Rivera. The paper is therefore being retracted by the American Physiological Society at the request of Dr. Jorge-Rivera and with the concurrence of the coauthors (who were neither accused of nor found responsible for any wrongdoing) as required by the National Science Foundation.
