Cover: Somatosensory “rattunculus” revealed by simultaneous high-resolution recording of evoked field potentials from the entire right hemisphere of the rat. Both primary (SI) and secondary (SII) somatosensory cortices form mirror images, rostral to visual (Vis) and medial to auditory (Aud) cortex, with an exaggerated representation of the face. A much smaller parietoventral area (PV), rostral and lateral to auditory cortex, has an upside-down representation of the body that is dominated by the paws. For details, see Benison AM, Rector DM, and Barth DS. Hemispheric mapping of secondary somatosensory cortex in the rat. J Neurophysiol 97: 200–207, 2007. First published September 27, 2006; doi:10.1152/jn.00673.2006.
